I haven’t made the switch to a smart phone. I’m currently putting up my last stand before the inevitable “upgrade.” Don’t get me wrong, I love technology as much as the next guy and probably spend upwards of 50 hours a week just using SolidWorks. But, SolidWorks doesn’t create metal chips when you cut away part of your design; it doesn’t send sparks flying past your head; it certainly doesn’t smell like grease and burnt metal.
There’s something primal and just plain manly about building something with your hands. The right machine shop is its own world. There’s no email, bureaucracy, or meetings, just you and your creation. This post is a celebration to all things hand made, so sit back and enjoy the following stories of lost arts.
