The settings and toolbars that you customize in SolidWorks are stored in the Windows registry key. SolidWorks being what it is, from time to time your registry settings will become corrupted, and the program will crash inexplicably. This means you’ll have to reset your registry, losing all of your settings in the process. It is a good idea to keep a backup copy of your settings for such an occasion.

With SolidWorks’ Save/Restore settings tool, you can save a copy of your settings and restore them in case you ever need reset the registry. You can also use the tool to transfer your settings to a different computer, saving you the time of having to go back through and re-customize the interface.
